Artist's Comments

Finally, heh, i get to upload a photo of it. This is the stipple that some of you heard me talk about. For those who don't know about it, this is a very lengthy project I did for art this year and I am really proud of how I did (not time-wise, I took too long, and it was technically late by about....two months). I just recently sold it to an English teacher at my school who liked it and wanted to buy it. That money is going to good use :P. Second work I sell, damn. First one was Neo (check gallery). I am not sure if the Miscellaneous gallery is the way to go, but I don't see stipple anywhere in that section :P.

As many details I can remember about this piece: Permanent marker (Micron and Ultra Fine) on thick white paper. I think its 18 x 20 in, but I am not sure, maybe a bit smaller (16x18). Took about from October till late December to finish (purely out of lack of time) but I am sure i put in 20+ hrs into it (yeah, look at all of those dots!). The technique is called stippling by my teacher, basically involves dotting the paper with the marker to create value. No lines, unless you are smart enough to place them somewhere in the darker areas out of desperation. Before anything, you grid out the paper and the reference image and plot out some major value changes on the paper with a 4H or something else light and erasable. WARNING: it is a fun project to try out on a small budget but if your grade depends on it, you WILL go insane. This is not one of those projects where you can sit for hours: the smell of marker and the pain in your wrist will get to you. And then it seems like any amount of work you just did is just a smidgen of the whole. And then....then...you....*breathes*.....you go slightly insane. You were warned!

Oh almost forgot. For those wondering who this is, it's Trinity from the Matrix Trilogy. The reference file I used can be found at [link] . Funny thing is, even though this image is from the 1st movie, it's not in it. I actually went back to the DVD and looked at the still images of both times she does the hand thing (the beginning with the dump truck and later in the subway) and neither looks like this. Therefore I am inclined to believe that this was from some promo photo shoot or something. (Now you know why I am called the Matrix Guy in my class :S).

:jawdrop: This is amazing! I'm telling you, if you did this on a regualr basis you would be so so pro... the detail is stunning, there are no flaws (at least from my point of view) in drawing of the figure, and the tones have been rendered very well. You can definately get an idea of how long this took you, makes what I'm about to submit look easy :P

thank you, yeah it's a shame that i can't do this on a regular basis like you. part of it being no time, part of it is laziness.
